DLD or a language delay is a specific disorder learning language: including issues with comprehension, listening, expression, making sentences and using language.

When children are learning another language or additional languages, it can be normal for them to have difficulty:
However, if a child has met all their age-appropriate communication milestones for their given age in their first language or their mother tongue, then they are having difficulty learning a second language and a language delay or disorder is not present.
If a child has difficulty with comprehension and/or expression in both or all of their spoken languages, then a language delay is present and they would benefit from therapy in their mother tongue or in English, to address their language delay or disorder.
